OWENSBORO, Ky. — Mary Ann King, 70, came into this world on April 3, 1953. This angel got her wings on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, with her family and friends by her side while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky.

Mary Ann was the best mom anyone could have and her two children, Cassie and Albert, knew how much they were loved. She was an example of being a nurturing mom, not only to her children but also to their many friends that came to their home.

On February 14, 1983, Mary Ann married Mike King at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. For many years, they owned and ran Martin’s Bar at the corner of Second and Triplett. She also spent many pleasurable hours gardening and believed for plants to thrive, the one tending the garden needed to spend time talking to the plants.

Some of those who will be waiting to greet her upon her arrival at Heaven’s Gate are a brother, Charles Mattingly; a sister, Nancy Bryant; her mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Albert King; and her much loved Golden Retriever, Butters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 41 years, Mike King; her children, Cassie Smith (Clint); as well as grandchildren, Collins, Margaret, and Caroline Austin, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Albert King (fiancée Ashley Smith), of Owensboro. Other family members include Allan and Gina King (brother and sister-in-law) and Carol Alvey (sister-in-law), all of Owensboro; nieces, Angie Frizzell (Adam), Rachael Frey (Drew); and nephews, Spencer King, of Owensboro, Allen Bryant (Laura), of Ohio County, Kentucky; great-nephews, Jude and Beau Frey, of Owensboro; and great-niece, Colette Frey, of Owensboro; and also a very dear friend, Suki Turner, of Owensboro who helped care for her during these final weeks.

The funeral mass for Mary Ann will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday with prayers at 6:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and then from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartford House, c/o of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to Spay-A-Stray of Owensboro, P. O. Box 442, Owensboro, KY 42302.
