HARTFORD, Ky. — Russell ‘Junior’ S. Hurd Jr., 76, of Hartford, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on Jan. 9, 1948, in Daviess County to the late Russell Hurd Sr. and Alma Lee Duke Hurd.
Junior was the proud owner and operator of Hurd’s Barbershop since 1962. He loved hunting, horses, and dogs. Most of all he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Junior was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty McLimore and Barbara Foster.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Elizabeth Watson Hurd; son, Gerald Ray Hurd (Erica); daughters, Denise Elizabeth Hurd and Angela Hurd; a special son-in-law, Joe Hunt; seven grandchildren, Trece Fulks, Olivia Gambrel (Reid Stewart), Keon Little, Kelsi Sowders (Charles), Tori Rae Hurd, Shawn Hunt, and Gillian Hunt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho, Kentucky.
