HARTFORD, Ky. — Frieda Lucille Phelps, 94, formerly of Hartford, peacefully passed away in Beaver Dam Rehab surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She married Orville James Phelps and to this union were born two daughters, Yvonne and Debbie.
Frieda worked in the Emporium in Disneyland, Anaheim, California, where she retired in 1973. After relocating to Hartford, Kentucky, to be closer to her children, she became Grandma Frieda to many children at Wayland Elementary where she was a foster grandmother.
She also volunteered at Ohio County Hospital with the Auxiliary and was a former member of the Bennett Homemakers. She could also be seen at the Wellness Center filling in as an instructor for water aerobics.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne Phelps.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Story, and her husband, Carl; two grandchildren, Ryan Gillstrap, of Napierville, Illinois, and David Gillstrap, of Oceanside, California; and two great-grandchildren, Nico Gillstrap and Nova Gillstrap.
The family will have a private graveside service at a later date.
