CENTERTOWN, Ky. — Josephine Ellis Roe, 99, of Centertown, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at 8:43 a.m. at her residence. She was born Dec. 30, 1923, in Sacramento, Kentucky.

She graduated from Sacramento High School and during WWII, she riveted Navy plane wings, and later worked at GE. Primarily she was a homemaker and farmer.

She was a member of Centertown United Methodist Church.

Josephine loved playing Pinochle, watching her “soaps” (ABC soaps). She was an amazing cook – after much trial and error. Everyone loved her pear preserves and tomato juice. She gardened and enjoyed telling stories.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Curtis Roe; one infant son, Warren Curtis Roe Jr.; parents, Floyd and Margie Ellis; and nine siblings.

She is survived by her two sons, Wallace Ellis Roe (Tina), of Bloomington, Indiana, and Joseph Michael Roe (Kelly), of Centertown; grandchildren, Sara Kelly Roe, of Kentucky, Michael Lannon Roe, of North Carolina, and Brandon Burge Roe, of Indiana; one great-granddaughter, Audrey Josephine Roe, of Kentucky; nieces and nephews; and many cherished friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 11, at 11 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, Kentucky, with Bro. Mike Atkins officiating and Bro. Charlie Taylor assisting. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
