BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Nina Lee Bray McQuady, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, surrounded by her family at Ohio County Healthcare. She was born at home in McHenry, Kentucky, during the 1937 flood on Jan. 9 to the late Frank Bray and Anna Mae Moore Bray.
Nina was a homemaker and member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Baizetown, Kentucky. She married her best friend and love of her life sixty-six years ago in the judge’s chambers with the sheriff and county attorney as their witnesses. The witnesses made the judge more nervous than the bride and groom were.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Matilda Vay and Vernie LeGrand; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Beulah Bray; brother-in-law, Wendell McCormick; and grandson, Johnny Ray Smith.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Fredric C. McQuady, of Beaver Dam; four children, Diana McQuady, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Fred (Dale) McQuady, of Lexington, Kentucky, Brenda (Paul) Smith, of Baizetown, and Sherry McQuady, of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren, Jimmy Smith, Jamey Smith, Travis (Barbara) McQuady, Aaron (Katie) McQuady, and Elise McQuady; 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Winnie McCormick, of Beaver Dam; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Linda McQuady, of Cromwell, Kentucky; and two nephews and four nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, with Rev. Greg Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery. Friends may visit with Nina’s family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
