ECHOLS, Ky. — Darrell R. “Shotty” Curtis, 84, of Echols, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at Bever Dam Nursing and Rehab. He was born on Nov. 14, 1938, in Echols, to the late Mitchell and Inez Curtis.
Shotty was a 1956 graduate of Rockport High School and a member of Echols General Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner from Homestead and Ken Surface Mines, and he loved horses.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Curtis.
He leaves behind to cherish many memories, his wife of 52 years, Sherry Curtis, of Echols; one son, Bobby (Tiffany) Curtis, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; one daughter, Shannon Curtis, of Beaver Dam; one sister, Ruth (Sam) Drake, of Logansport; two sisters-in-law, June Curtis, of Gunnersville, Alabama, and Julie (Harold) Chinn, of Centertown, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Jordan (Cord) Bundy, Alyssa (Jack) Payton, Dylan Curtis, Luke Bundy, and Derek Curtis; and several nieces and nephews that he loved.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Rev. Jeff Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Echols Cemetery. Friends may visit with Shotty’s family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
