BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Ellis Lamar, 81, of Beaver Dam, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of Ohio County. He was born Monday, July 20, 1942, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to the late Raymond Lamar and Vertie Lindsey Lamar Leach.
Mr. Lamar was formerly employed by Peabody Coal Company and Ohio County Board of Education. He enjoyed watching UK Basketball, woodworking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wendell Lamar; sister, Norma Jean Potter; and grandson, Zachery Tinsley.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 29 years, Allene Lamar, of Beaver Dam; four sons, Ellis “Paul” (Dorothy) Lamar, of McHenry, Kentucky, Laymon “Wayne” (Melissa) Lamar, of Butler, Kentucky, Jeffrey Shun Lamar, of Beaver Dam, and Michael Don Lamar, of Beaver Dam; three stepchildren, Veronica (Tony) Tinsley, of Beaver Dam, Willis (Alisa) Burden, of Beaver Dam, and Scotty (Melissa) Burden, of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Hazel Sinclair, of Beaver Dam, and Jewell (Charles) Hudson, of Beaver Dam; sister-in-law, Carol Lamar; and 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at William L. Danks Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, with Rev. Terry Tarrance officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Kentucky. Friends may visit with Mr. Lamar’s family from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
