HARTFORD, Ky. — Earl Thomas Johnson, 88, of Hartford, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. Earl was born in Lewisburg, Kentucky, on May 19, 1935, to the late George and Daisy Johnson.

He owned and operated Speedy’s Dairy Bar and the Reliable Dental Lab, from which he retired in 1999 after 40 years in the business. Earl had an interest in photography and was a staff photographer for the Ohio County Times-News for many years.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Ohio County Chamber of Commerce, Ohio County 4-H Council, Ohio County Band Boosters, and a volunteer for the Bill Monroe Homeplace. He attended Plainview General Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Jeff Johnson, of Orlando, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Leola Johnson, of Hartford; his son, David Earl (Tonya) Johnson, of Hartford; his grandson, Luke Aaron Johnson, of Henderson, Nevada; and his brother, Milburn Ray Johnson (Kathy), of Cape Coral, Florida.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, at Plainview General Baptist Church in Auburn, Kentucky, with Bro. Arno Kranz presiding. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Gideons International.
