OWENSBORO, Ky. — Janita Bennett Holladay, 77, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on April 28, 2023, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Janita was born November 11, 1945, in Centertown, Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas and Lucille (James) Bennett.
Janita loved her family and spending time with them. Aside from her family, she loved getting together with friends and having a good meal, talking about growing up in Matanzas and going to school in Centertown, KY. She was a person who cherished her time and made the most of every day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, William Holladay and Joseph Ginn; three brothers, Larry, Gene, and R.T. Bennett; four sisters, Cora Belle James, Carolyn Kirk, Maxine Heflin, and Wanda Whitehead.
Janita is survived by her daughter, Dr. Carey (Derek) Ruiz, of Lexington, Kentucky; her son, Eddie (Lisa) Duke, of Owensboro; 11 grandchildren, Megann Brown, Edierah Brown, Kala Brown, Isabella Watkins, Eliana Ruiz, Michael Ruiz, Jeslyn Ruiz, Seth (Ellen) Duke, Sarah (Jarrett) Braden, Samuel Duke, and Sydnie Duke; two great-grandchildren, Hazel and Claire Braden; and many nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished.

A funeral service for Janita Holladay will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 1, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, with Rev. Eddie Duke officiating. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
