LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An Ohio County resident has become the only University of Louisville student to be awarded both the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and the Harry S. Truman Scholarship.
Klemmer Nicodemus, 21, of Hartford, is a junior student at the University of Louisville majoring in chemical engineering with a minor in chemistry.
Nicodemus is one of 62 college students and the only Kentucky student to win this year’s Truman Scholarship. The Truman Scholarship is known as one of the top scholarships for those students interested in entering into public service.
Nicodemus was one of 413 students and one of just two UofL students to be awarded the Goldwater Scholarship. The Goldwater Scholarship Program encourages students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Like the Truman Scholarship, the Goldwater Scholarship is one of the top undergraduate awards of its type in these fields.
Nicodemus is an undergraduate researcher at UofL and with the U.S. Department of Energy. After graduating, Nicodemus hopes to attain a doctorate in chemical engineering and pursue a life of public service as a scientist.
In addition to his college success, Nicodemus graduated from Ohio County High School in 2020 as the senior class co-salutatorian.
Nicodemus is the son of Robert and Megan Nicodemus, of Hartford, and the grandson of Pat and Debbie Gilstrap, of Beaver Dam.
