Ky. Drug Endangered Children training set for Apr. 19

In Local, News by OC Monitor Staff

Children are impacted on a daily basis by their parent’s or caregivers’ substance misuse. Often these children are the first impacted and the last ones to be identified and to receive help, support, and services. Come learn from national presenters and join the conversation facilitated through this training so you can help children in your community.

The DEC Awareness Training helps you understand who drug-endangered children are and the risks and long-term impacts associated with parental and caregiver substance misuse and drug activity. Trainers discuss the importance of and opportunities for early identification and intervention and the need for multidisciplinary collaborative efforts to identify and help these children.

A DEC Approach training session will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in Owensboro at the Kentucky Wesleyan College Activities Center. To register for this event, click here.

A DEC Approach training session focuses on how to implement the DEC Approach, which is a strategy based on a common vision, ongoing collaboration between various disciplines & agencies & ongoing changes in practice. The DEC Approach is effective in improving the likelihood of better outcomes for drug-endangered children. Discussions & hands-on activities are used.

Child welfare, law enforcement, prevention coalitions, district attorneys, probation/parole, treatment, ongoing service providers, teachers/school personnel, fire, EMS, judges, community members, and others who have a job that impacts children and families should try to attend this training session.

If you can attend the DEC Awareness training session April 19 in Hartford, there is a DEC Awareness training session from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 in Morganfield at the Union County Extension Office. To register for the April 18 event, click here.

If you attended the DEC Awareness training session in September 2022, you do not need to attend it again, but you are welcome to if you choose.

All training sessions are sponsored by KY-ASAP, UCWEECAN, and RiverValley Regional Prevention Center.
