OCTC to host Experience Nursing day

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Owensboro Community & Technical College will hold an Experience Nursing day for anyone who may be interested in becoming a registered nurse. Students completing the nursing program are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam and be a licensed RN.

The events will be held on Friday, March 18, and on Friday, April 22 from 1 – 4 p.m., in the Academic Building, located on OCTC’s Main Campus at 4800 New Hartford Road. Students attending will participate in hands-on activities including baseline patient assessment, basic nursing skills, and development of a simple care plan. Nurse educators will be on hand to explore nursing career options and cover best practices to prepare for applying to competitive nursing programs.

“This is a great opportunity for students to see if nursing is the right fit for them. This creates a safe space for students to try it out and see if it is something they can be passionate about,” said OCTC President Dr. Scott Williams.

Participants will receive a t-shirt and a practice kit. Interested students should contact their high school guidance counselor or email nancy.wilson@kctcs.edu for an application. Space is limited to the first 20 applicants, but sessions may be added based on the level of interest.

“Students can save a lot of time and energy by preparing early. There are courses at the high school or that can be taken through dual credit that can help them be ready to compete for the limited number of spots available in nursing programs,” said Dr. Lori Donahoo, OCTC’s nursing program coordinator.

Masks are required on campus and social distancing protocols will be implemented. For more information, contact Nancy Wilson at 270-686-4581 or via email at nancy.wilson@kctcs.edu.
