Wanda ‘Dockie’ (Eskridge) Simmons

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. — Wanda ‘Dockie’ Simmons, 88, of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, passed away Dec. 20, 2021, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was born in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, on Dec. 3, 1933, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Alene Miller Eskridge.

Wanda was a retired teacher with the Jefferson County School System and a retired real estate agent. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Dockie, as she was known to family and friends, had many interests that include making stained glass windows, singing in her church choir, providing transportation, a helping hand, and friendship to those who needed it. Her family was her world and they adored her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Opal Marshall, Jean Harmon, Naomi Simmons, and Travis Eskridge, and grandson, Cody.

Dockie is survived by her husband, Emmett Simmons, of Lawrenceburg; three children, Paul (Angela) Simmons, of Versailles, Kentucky, Mark (Lin) Simmons, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Denise (John) Graham, of Charlestown, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Paula, Amie, Meredith, Shelby, Nathan, Cassidy, Darnell, Tony, Jasmine, and Nicole; nine great-grandchildren: Elias, Cora, Luella, Tyler, Emerson, Jeremiah, Geneva, Tori, and Vonte; and one brother, Leon Eskridge, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. with burial in the McQuady Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. All times are central.
