OWENSBORO, Ky. — Bessie Lynn Hunley, 97, of Owensboro, formerly of Hartford, Kentucky, passed away Oct. 21, 2021, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born May 5, 1924, to Norton Guess and Carrie Russell Hunley.

Bessie worked for Ohio County Health Department for 46 years as the clerk. She was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Ohio County Hospital Auxiliary, and had served on the Ohio County Board of Health.

Bessie was known as a most Godly woman. She read the Bible daily. She loved Jesus and people. Bessie was genuinely blessed with the gift of laughter. She truly touched everyone she met. God’s love radiated from her like a shining star as she was a beautiful example of unconditional love.

Bessie is preceded in death by her parents, Norton Guess and Carrie Russell Hunley; brothers, Porter and Neil Hunley; niece, Ruth Ann Hale; and best friends, Dorothy Samuels and Doris Bennett.

She is survived by nephews, John (Katrina) Hunley, of Owensboro, and Lynn Hunley, of South Carolina; niece, Nancy (Greg) Chase, of Lexington, Kentucky; close cousin, Rachel Russell, of Louisville, Kentucky; along with lots of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, at Miller Schapmire Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miller Schapmire Funeral Home.
