OWENSBORO, Ky. — The National Council on Aging has awarded the Green River Area Development District $120,000 for the continued work of the Benefits Enrollment Center.

GRADD is one of 80 BECs nationwide whose focus is to connect limited income Medicare beneficiaries with the core benefits of:

  • Medicare Part D Extra Help/Low-Income Subsidy
  • Medicare Savings Programs
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP – formerly known as Food Stamps)
  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program
  • According to GRADD Community Services Manager, Leslie Wilson, “the Benefits Enrollment Center is a tremendous resource for seniors and disabled individuals in the GRADD communities.” Through the Benefits CheckUp tool, benefits counselors can screen clients for over 2,500 benefit programs. Once potential benefits are identified, the counselors can help clients through the application process. Ms. Wilson emphasized, “our commitment to follow through with clients is key to effecting positive change in the lives of our clients.” Additionally, GRADD partners with multiple agencies in the area for maximum outreach.

Individuals interested in a Benefits CheckUp screening, or organizations that would like to schedule an outreach event can contact the GRADD office at 1-800-928-9094. The screening tool is also available at www.benefitscheckup.org/gradd and is accessible to anyone.
