MORGANTOWN, Ky. — Gennita Mae Burden, 88, of Morgantown, went to be with the Lord Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at her residence. Gennita was born on Sunday, May 21, 1933, in Olaton, Kentucky, to the late Herman and Bonnie Bratcher Burden.
Upon returning from military service, Delmer Tracy Burden united in marriage with Gennita on Dec. 24, 1948. They were soon blessed with a son, Larry. Life’s path guided them to Louisville, Kentucky, by way of Heyworth, Illinois.
In the 1950’s they returned home to Morgantown where they were blessed with a second son, Barry. After raising her boys she began her 25-year career at the Lakeview Healthcare.
Other than parents Gennita is preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Tracy Burden; one brother, J.L. Burden; and five sisters, Laurel Swift, Ina Ray Taylor, Adeline Leighton, Wilma Beasley and Elaine Geary.
The family continued to grow with the marriage of Larry to wife, Doretta Smith Burden, and with the marriage of Barry to wife, Marrine Johnson Burden. They then were blessed with several grandchildren, Scott Burden and wife, Lisa, Gina Pendley and husband, Kevin, Tracy Burden and wife, Amanda, and Kristie Dowell; 26 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren with three on the way. Gennita is also survived by one brother, Frankie Burden, and one sister-in-law, Ruby Burden. She loved spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at the Zion Harmony Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. with Bro. Gary Embry officiating. Burial will be held in the Zion Harmony Church Cemetery where Scott, Tracy, Timmy, and Tipton Burden, River, and Remington Dowell, and Christian and Avery Pendley will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Chapel and Friday, Sept. 3, from 9 a.m. until funeral time at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Harmony Baptist Church.
