BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Mary Ellen “Granny” Rowan, 84, of Beaver Dam, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at her home. She was born on Sept. 6, 1936, in Hartford, Kentucky, to the late Oscar Lee and Beulah Casteel Ballard.
Mary was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking for her family, tending to her flowers, playing bunco, board games, cards, and bowling.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cullen Rowan Jr.; nine siblings, Dorothy Ballard, Wuanita Ballard, Catherine Ballard Thomas, Ann Ballard DuValle, JR Ballard, Butch Ballard, Edward Ballard, Sam Ballard, and Jim Ballard; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind to cherish many memories, her children, Jim (Mary) Rowan, of Valparaiso, Indiana, Larry Rowan, of Beaver Dam, LouAnn (Perry) Dickinson, of Croswell, Michigan, and Rhonda Rowan, of Beaver Dam; one brother, Imon (Mary) Ballard, of Hartford; and 10 grandchildren, Terry (Courtney) Rowan, Larry (Jennifer) Rowan, Jimmy (Lindsey) Rowan, Lisa (Frankie) Krebs, Sabrina Eason, Jen (Jimmy) Ward, Nicholas (Lynette) Eason, Brandon (Destiny) Stewart, Spencer Stewart, and Andrea (John Hilburn) Stewart. Mary was blessed with 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Brent Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit with Mary’s family from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
