OCTC Medical Assisting program extends deadline to Aug. 1

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Owensboro Community and Technical College’s Medical Assisting program has extended the deadline to apply for the fall semester until August 1, 2021.

Medical Assisting is a limited admissions program with courses offered in the fall, spring, intercession and summer semesters, so students may complete the degree in an accelerated manner.

Students may earn a diploma in one year and an associate in applied science degree in one year and one additional semester. Medical assistants typically perform administrative and clinical duties such as scheduling appointments, manage medical records, process insurance claims, take vital signs, chart patient history, administer medication, facilitate lab tests, and assist physician with procedures. Graduates work in doctor’s offices, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare facilities.

OCTC’s Medical Assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs.
