OWENSBORO, Ky. — Owensboro Community & Technical College is starting a new Plumbing FastTrack program in the fall. FastTrack programs utilize an “earn and learn” model, providing students with opportunities to earn credentials quickly, so they can go to work in the field of interest as soon as possible. In addition to practical experiences, instruction is given in building codes, and blueprint reading.
Courses begin with an online introductory course and lab courses include Basic Plumbing Skills, Plumbing Principles, Plumbing Systems and Rough-in of Plumbing Fixtures. At the conclusion of the 12-month program, the student will earn multiple certificates including 1st Year Plumber Mechanic, Certified Backflow Tester, Finish Plumber, Service & Repair Plumber, Rough Plumber, 2nd Year Plumber Mechanic and Maintenance Plumber.
The courses prepare students for licensure and shadowing. The Plumbing FastTrack courses will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday evenings. Students may work with a success coach on job placement opportunities. Classes begin Aug. 16 in the Industry Innovation Center on OCTC’s Main Campus at 4800 New Hartford Road.
