MADISONVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 Snow and Ice Team are preparing for the forecasted weather expected overnight and into Thursday. Crews in District 2 have begun pre-treating the highways in anticipation of sleet and freezing rain for western Kentucky.
The projected forecast includes the possibility of a 1/4 – 1/2 inch accumulation of ice.
Motorists are encouraged to keep in mind the possibility of falling trees and/or branches blocking the highway.
Drivers should be alert for slow-moving trucks on the road spraying brine on bridges, overpasses, and other potential trouble spots.
Priority A routes include critical state routes and those most heavily traveled, such as interstates and main roads between counties or to hospitals, which receive the highest priority for snow-clearing efforts. Priority B and C routes include other important but lesser-traveled state routes.
According to the National Weather Service Paducah Office, sleet and freezing rain are expected to develop overnight and continue across the region into Thursday. For an updated NWS forecast, go to https://www.facebook.com/NWSPaducah.
The KYTC District 2 Snow & Ice Team will continue to monitor changing conditions throughout the district. Crews will have trucks fueled and ready to roll out should conditions go beyond the current forecast. Motorists are reminded to plan ahead, monitor area media outlets for localized forecast updates, and be aware of changing weather conditions.
District 2 is comprised of Caldwell, Christian, Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Hopkins, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Webster, and Union counties.
