BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Tressie Curtis Brown, 82, of Beaver Dam, went to her heavenly home Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born Sept. 6, 1938, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Leonard V. and Violet L. Heflin Curtis.

Tressie was in the newspaper business for over 50 years. She began her career as a typist at the Ohio County Messenger and was currently the office manager of the Ohio County Times News and “The Principal” of WXMZ Radio Station.

She was very active in the McHenry Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, a Sunday School teacher, former treasurer, and assistant treasurer.

Tressie loved her family, church family, newspaper family and community with all her heart.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Naomi Duncan and Reba Curtis, and one brother, Willard Curtis.

She leaves behind to cherish many memories are two sons, Greg (Shirley) Brown, of Hannahan, South Carolina, and Kevin (Lisa) Brown, of Orlando, Florida; two daughters, Geleta (Francis) Armstrong, of Beaver Dam, and Serita (Phil) Woods, of Knoxville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and special friend and partner in crime, Jerry Wright.

Private family services will be held at William L. Danks Funeral Home. Friends may visit with Tressie’s family from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, Kentucky.

Due to health and public safety mandates, our capacity will be limited to 50 percent and facial coverings will be required.
