OWENSBORO, Ky. — Owensboro Community & Technical College’s Associate Degree Nursing program is currently accepting applications for students that will begin the program in August 2021. The ADN program prepares graduates to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination enabling the graduate to become a Registered Nurse. The deadline for applications is March 1, 2021, and 40 students will be chosen for the next class, based on a selective admissions process.
Dr. Lori Donahoo was recently named as the new program director. Terri Lanham, who most recently served as the director, retired after 28 years of service. Dr. Donahoo is a graduate OCTC’s nursing program and returns to OCTC after serving as a program coordinator at Henderson Community College for three years. She has been teaching nursing courses within the KCTCS system the last seven years.
Dr. Donahoo earned an ADN degree from OCTC. Dr. Donahoo earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree, a Master’s of Science in Nursing degree and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Western Kentucky University. She is also a Certified Nurse Educator, confirmed by the National League for Nursing.
“Terri leaves the program with a great legacy, completing the national accreditation process for the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation. Terri helped OCTC establish great regional partnerships to place students at various clinical sites” said Dr. Donahoo. “I plan to continue strengthening our collaborative efforts.”
“Right now, we are only admitting a new group of students in the Nursing program once a year. Based on regional need and our capacity to place the students in clinical settings we are evaluating moving towards admitting students into the Nursing program twice a year,” added Dr. Stacy Edds-Ellis, dean of professional and technical studies.
Nursing is one of the most essential careers in our region. If you are interested in helping people and are adept at science, nursing is a great option. Nursing offers countless employment opportunities in a variety of healthcare settings.
For students who are Licensed Practical Nurses and are interested in pursuing an ADN, OCTC offers the LPN to ADN program option. OCTC’s ADN program is accredited by the National League of Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation and is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
