HORSE BRANCH, Ky. — Vernell M. Calloway, 91, of Horse Branch, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Oak Ridge in Butler County, Kentucky, on Dec. 6, 1929, to the late Jessie and Margaret Lindsey Beasley.
Vernell was a homemaker for more than 70 years, and a member of New Covenant Tabernacle. Vernell enjoyed watching T.V. and reading her Bible. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Vernell is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Porter; her brothers, Kenneth Lee Beasley, and Lenard C. Beasley; and her grandson, Jason Daughtry.
Vernell is survived by her children, Portia Mayer, Theresa (J.T.) Payton, Kenneth Calloway (Sheila), Thomas Calloway, Dale (Karen) Calloway; 11 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Betty Roach and Lydia Beasley.
Private services will be held for the family Wednesday, Dec. 9. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
All twenty-five loved ones who wish to honor Vernell at the visitation and funeral are required to wear a mask while inside the funeral home for the safety of all those in attendance.
