HARTFORD, Ky. — The city of Hartford will not have a Christmas parade this year, but the city will livestream its City Christmas tree lighting on the lawn of the Ohio County Courthouse.
Hartford announced its decision in a letter from Mayor George Chinn to residents acknowledging the COVID-19 pandemic has made 2020 “a difficult year for all of us” and caused the cancellation of many regular city activities and events. The recent rise in active COVID-19 cases led Hartford to cancel plans for a Christmas parade and instead livestream the city Christmas tree lighting.
The Christmas tree lighting will be livestreamed at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, from the Hartford Facebook page.
The city also encouraged residents to decorate and light their homes this holiday season and moreover, in the spirit of the holidays, consider volunteering and/or donating to help those who are less fortunate.
“Driving through the city, looking at lighted, decorated homes and the rere and helping others will brighten an otherwise dreary time in our history,” Chinn wrote in the letter to Hartford residents. “As we try to get through this together, please observe all recommendations and stay safe for yourselves and others.”
