HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam making the rounds involving the Publishers Clearing House.
According to Sheriff Tracy Beatty, Ohio County’s citizens, especially senior citizens, are being targeted by phone scams where the caller claims to be with Publishers Clearing House. The scammer informs the victim they’ve won a prize, but needs the person to send money to claim it. Don’t fall for it, it’s a scam.
According to the PCH, it never asks for money to claim a prize. The prizes are free.
If you receive a phone call like this, don’t give the scammers any information or send money. The best defense is to simply hang up
