OCH asking for help in acquiring PPE items

In Local, News by OC Monitor Staff

HARTFORD, Ky. — Ohio County Healthcare is exploring PPE, or personal protective equipment, options with the anticipation hospital supplies are going to run low with the COVID-19 crisis.

To help combat this, OCH asked its fellow Ohio County Chamber of Commerce members for help in securing items of PPE. If needed, OCH can purchase these items.

When it comes to PPE, there are items not necessarily thought of as PPE that can be used, for example, capes from beauty salons. Other potential PPE items to consider are masks, face shields, gowns, protective eyewear, cleaning supplies/solution, etc. Another item to consider as a PPE is a bunny suit worn by coal miners when going underground in mines for protection.

OCH continues to order through its normal vendors, but with short supplies, the hospital is trying to prepare as best as possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For people seeking care during this time, OCH has several options. If you are experiencing cough, shortness of breath and fever, here are options for guidance:

  • 24-hour hotline, answered by a registered nurse at 270-256-5535
  • 7-day a week drive-thru screening center at 1132 Clay St., Hartford, KY 42347 (Corner of Clay St. and McMurtry Avenue)
  • All provider practices are open and operating on a normal schedule. Patients can be seen in the office or by virtual visit. Contact your provider office for instruction for car side registration to minimize waiting times.
  • The hospital’s ER is open 24/7.
