McQUADY, Ky. — Ernie Nix, 68, of McQuady, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was born in Locust Hill, Kentucky, on Jan. 27, 1952, the son of the late Ernest and Mary Kinnerson Nix.
He was a retired bus driver with the Breckinridge County Board of Education, a former foreman with the Breckinridge County Road Department, former fire chief of McQuady Fire Department, member of the Hardinsburg VFW Post, a Kentucky Colonel, and worked the roadblock each year for the Crusade for Children. Ernie enjoyed watching UK basketball, gardening, his chickens, and playing poker and Canasta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Nix; son, Timmy Ball; grandson, Thomas Ball; great-grandson, Ronald Ball Jr.; brother, Jackie Carman; and son-in-law, Larry Boyken.
Ernie is survived by six children, Robbie Ball (Theresa), of Fordsville, Kentucky, Rick Martin (Crystal), of Hardinsburg, Kentucky, Kenny Martin, Jennifer Martin, of Hardinsburg, Gail Boyken, of Cromwell, Kentucky, and Kim Ball, of Reynolds Station, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Paige Smith, Magnus Smith, Nash Gibson, Amanda Ball, Ronald Ball, and Derick Martin; seven great-grandchildren and one expected in May, Marilynn Lou Bowlin, Haylie McMannes, Andrew Nulf, Brittany Nulf, Lilly Ann Ball, Rosie Ball, and Dominic Ball.
Private graveside services will be held at Locust Hill Cemetery.
