HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office is receiving complaints about a scam that seems to be making its way through Ohio County.

According to the OCSO, victims of this scam are receiving a fake check from the Publishers Clearing House in the mail. The victims are instructed to cash the check and then send the money back for processing fees to receive a large amount of money. Be cautious as these checks look real.

As a precaution, never give your information to anyone on the phone, including your date of birth, social security number and banking information.

The OCOS asks you to share this information with your friends, neighbors, and family, especially the elderly.
