WHITESVILLE, Ky. — Gilbert L. “Gib” Evans, 87, of Whitesville, died Friday, July 5, 2019, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Palmer and Della Edge Evans.
He retired after 45 years as an oil field worker for Harken/Crescent Drilling Company and was a U.S. Army veteran. Gib enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on old engines. He was a member at New Panther Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lucy Evans; daughter, Connie Porter; son, Lou Evans and wife, Vicki; grandchildren, Josh Evans, Andrea Tucker, Michael Porter, Chris Porter, Candice Ballard and Tyler Smiley and great-grandchildren, Jessa Tucker, Aubrey, Briley, Carson and Kayleigh Porter, Karter and Ashlynn Smiley, Graci and Hope Ballard.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8, at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY. Burial will follow at Bells Run Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, July 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the National Kidney Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
