OWENSBORO, Ky. — Noel Douglas Cavender, 69, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at his home under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky after a valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. Doug was born March 9, 1950, in Centertown, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Noel Delbert and the late Ruth Helen Wallace Cavender.
Doug graduated from Ohio County High School in 1968 and attended Western Kentucky University. He retired from Big Rivers Electric with a combination of 30 years at the Coleman and Wilson plants. He worked at Perfect Circle Mines in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, prior to the mine closing.
Doug was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, basketball, reading, traveling and most of all worshiping with his extended family at First Baptist Church. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 20 years serving in several capacities including a Deacon.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 46 years, Rhonda Durham Cavender; his sister, Cheryl (Garry) Lacefield, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; his brother-in-law, Jay (Kathi) Durham, of Owensboro; sister-in-law, Teresa (Steve) Midkiff, of McDermott, Ohio; his brother-in-law, Gary (Becky) Durham, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at First Baptist Church, Owensboro. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, KY. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, April 19, and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
