HARTFORD, Ky. — Mattie Ruth Ralph Phillips, 92, of Hartford, passed away March 30, 2019, at her home. She was born in Sunnydale, Kentucky, July 8, 1926, to the late James C. Ralph and Ruth Ora Vance Ralph.
Mattie was a member of Hartford Second Baptist Church. She enjoyed dancing on Friday nights at The Barn in Rosine, she loved her country music, quilting, camping with her husband, Doc, when they were younger, and reading. She drove to the library every week and kept a list of every book she had read.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence M. “Doc” Phillips, who passed away in 2011; a son, Terry Ralph Phillips; Bonnie Edwards Phillips; her brothers, James Duff Ralph, and John “Buddy” Ralph; and her sister, Annetta Rae Ralph.
Mattie is survived by her children, Larry (Brenda Sue) Phillips, of Mission, Texas, Judy (Larry) Farley, of Columbus, Ohio, Becky (Chris) Payton, of Hartford, and Lisa (Mark) Cottrell, of Petersburg, Virginia; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Schapmire Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Old Main Street Hartford, Kentucky. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
