WHITESVILLE, Ky. — Irlan Payne, 90, of Whitesville, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at The Heartford House. He was born on May 25, 1928, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Omer and Elzora Snyder Payne. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Green River Steel.
Irlan enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming.
His later years were filled with the sweet joy of his great-granddaughters, Sady, 12, and Sawyer, 3. These special moments included chocolates, crayons and SpongeBob and will remain as untouched treasures of the heart.
In addition to his parents, Irlan is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Christine Mayfield Payne; a grandson, Michael “Mick” Mills; three brothers and a sister.
Irlan is survived by his children, Vickie (Larry) Brown, Jean (Tom) Fairbank June (Edwin) Mills, and Debbie (John) Elder; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Charles D. (Linda) Payne, Delores Wells, and Marjorie Payne.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Heartford House, Miles Jackson, Dianne Birkhead at Main Street Family Medicine, Vicki and Tony Morris, and Gail Edge for their care.
Visitation will be at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, Monday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with burial following at St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery.
