HARTFORD, Ky. — Charles Hayes James, 76, of Hartford, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Gilstrap, Kentucky, April 24, 1942, to the late Elliott James and Glennie Cook James.
Mr. James retired from Pyramid Coal Company where he was known as “Shot Gun” and was a member or Owensboro Moose Lodge. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam.
Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pam Hughes and Linda Phelps; sister-in-law, Arbella James; and niece, Angie Hope.
He leaves behind to treasure his memory his wife, Debbie James, of Hartford; two daughters, Jennifer James (Joshua) Louks, of Noblesville, Indiana, and Jerri Lynn Morton, of Owensboro, Kentucky; one son, Scott Schroader, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren, Rosemary James, Jessica James-Schultz, Ian Schultz, Brooklyn Schroader, Avery Schroader, Lily Schroader, Delaney Schroader, Jacob Morton, Brandon Morton, and Alex Morton; one brother, Leonard James, of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Ohio County Park. Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the park. William L. Danks Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
A meal and music will follow the service. The family requests that if you would like to attend the meal please bring a side dish.
