ROCKPORT, Ky. — Harold Lee O’Brien, 74, of Rockport, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born June 5, 1944, in Rockport, to the late Clarence and Ruby L. Brown O’Brien.
Harold was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He was a retired operator engineer from T.V.A. Paradise and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers in Henderson. Harold was an avid bee keeper, he enjoyed reading, loved crappie fishing, hunting, gardening and being outdoors.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Sherri Lynn O’Brien Schwab, and Gary Thomas O’Brien; six brothers, Kenneth Dale O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien, Wendell E. O’Brien, Billy O’Brien, Donald Paul O’Brien, and John L. O’Brien; and two sisters, Sue Fulkerson and Jane Rhule.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Kathy Buckler O’Brien, of Rockport; two grandchildren, Jonathon Case (Alysha) O’Brien, of Newburgh, Indiana, and Rebecca (Ryan) Brewer, of Beechmont, Kentucky; one brother, Larry O’Brien, of Central City, Kentucky; and two sisters, Doris (David) Salmon, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Aileen Maugherman, of Bradenton, Florida. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City with military honors provided by the Ohio County Honor Guard. Friends may visit with Harold’s family from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
