CONWAY, S.C. — Phyllis Embry Odle, of Conway, departed this life on Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at the age of 76. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Mary (Pruitt) Embry of Louisville, Kentucky.
She was the wife of Irwin C. “Dubbie” Odle for 55 years.
Phyllis was born in Kentucky and lived there until 1987 when she and Dubbie moved to Horry County, South Carolina. She was a music teacher in the Kentucky schools for 23 years, and worked as a music teacher and guidance counselor in the South Carolina schools for 15 years.
She also directed several church choirs in both Kentucky and South Carolina. She touched many lives during her 38 years as an educator. She was best known by all who knew her for her passion for music.
She was an accomplished musician, but her greatest love was for Southern Gospel Music.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Sandy Lee and her husband, Craig, of Nicholasville, Kentucky; brother, Rev. Don Embry and his wife, Shirley, of Mayfield, Kentucky; sister, Charlene Nunn and her husband, Paul, of Prestonsburg, Kentucky; two sisters-in-law, Doris and Nevesta Odle; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway. She will then return to Kentucky for the funeral and burial. A Celebration of Life Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018 at Dermitt’s Funeral Home in Leitchfield, Kentucky with a visitation one hour prior to service. Rev. Don Embry and Bro. Glenn Armstrong will be officiating. Burial will be held Laymon Memorial Gardens in Millwood, Kentucky.
