ROCKPORT, Ky. — Edmond “Ed” Spurlock, 91, of Rockport, went to his heavenly home Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at his residence. He was born June 8, 1927, in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late Homer Spurlock and Esther Pace Spurlock.
Mr. Spurlock retired from Peabody Coal working at Ken, Graham Hill and Cherry Hill mines, and was a member of UMWA Local #8941. He was a member of Rockport Baptist Church where he served as deacon and song leader for many years.
Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Katherine “Kat” Spurlock; his twin brother, Charles Spurlock; daughter, Alice Manasco; three sons-in-law, John Gatewood, Bob Manasco, and Bill Brown; and a granddaughter, Mindy Landrum.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Emma Gatewood, of Rockport, and Carolene Brown, of Rockport; three grandchildren, James Edmond (Melanie ) Manasco, Bobbie Jo (Danny) Calloway, and Kimberly (Troy) Farris; nine great-grandchildren, Kayla Calloway, Kendra Calloway, Kara Calloway, Kayden Manasco, Jay Manasco, Tatum Manasco, Alex Farris, Austin Landrum, and Ashton Farris; and a brother, Herman Spurlock, of Cawood, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, with Rev. Wayne Stewart and Rev. Charles Brownd officiating. Burial will follow in Echols Cemetery in Echols, Kentucky. Friends may visit with Mr. Spurlock’s family from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and 11 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
