Arrel Rowe Himes ‘Himie’

BEDA, Ky. — Arrel Rowe Himes “Himie,” 88, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Hartford, Kentucky, June 18, 1929, son of the late Arrel and Lucille Felty Himes.

Himie was a member of Beulah Cumberland Presbyterian Church; Hartford Masonic Lodge; member of National Rifle Association, Honorable Kentucky Colonel,
Veteran of U.S. Army during Korean War, where he served as a corpsman, worked for Rohr Aircraft in San Diego, California; Kentucky Department of Transportation, Environmentalist for Ohio County Health Department, and retired from Green River District Health Department as a registered sanitarian.

He was a supporter of the Cromwell and Hartford Fire Departments, enjoyed nature, and was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Waltrude Tichenor Himes; daughter, Theresa Ann Watkins; and sister, Elaine G. Crea.

Survivors include two sons, David Arrel Himes and Mark Steven Himes; daughter, Shannon Jean Ashby(Kevin); eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol Hoagland.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday, May 19, at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam with Bro. Ryan Himes officiating. Fire department members from Hartford and Cromwell will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Beulah Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in the Beda Community of Ohio County. Friends may visit with the family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and the Ohio County Honor Guard will perform military rites.
