HARTFORD, Ky. — The Ohio County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the grand opening and open house of New Beginnings Sexual Assault Support Services office Friday in Hartford.
New Beginnings has been providing services to the Green River region since 1978 and has offices in Owensboro, Henderson, and now Ohio County with therapists traveling to all seven counties of the GRADD district.
“New Beginnings strives to reach each survivor of sexual assault. An important part of our mission is to educate the community, from professionals to K-12 students about sexual assault and prevention. The term ‘sexual assault’ can include sexual abuse, rape, incest, sexual harassment, and many other sexually related offenses.”
Their services include:
- 24-hour sexual assault crisis line
- Counseling for individuals, couples, family, and friends
- Family support and group services
- Legal, medical, and law enforcement information
- Advocacy for victims by accompanying them to the hospital, police station, and court
- Case consultation
- VINE and victim compensation information
They also provide free community education programs covering:
- Good Touch/Bad Touch Curriculum
- Internet Safety Programs
- Healthy Relationships
- Bullying
- Girl Power
- Sexual assault awareness, safety and risk reduction
- Date, acquaintance, stranger rape, sexual harassment, incest, and child sexual abuse
- Green Dot (Bystander prevention)
- In-Service training for professionals
