UTICA, Ky. — Porter Lee McClure, 93, of Utica, died on Friday, April 27, 2018, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late William H. and Mary Meredith McClure.

He was a farmer, had worked in oil fields, and was known and loved for his gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor. He was a Army veteran of World War II and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater on the islands of Peleliu, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.

Porter was a member of Green Brier Baptist Church and served as a deacon for over 60 years.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Helen McClure, on Feb. 23, 2013, and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth McClure and his wife, Gale, of Philpot, Kentucky; two daughters, Gail Baird and her husband, Jerry, of Glenville, Kentucky, and Kathy Hubbard and her husband, Philip, of Indian Springs, Alabama; grandchildren, Cyndi Cook (Tony), Chris McClure, Tyler McClure, Kelly McClure (Forrest Crump), Meredith Hubbard and Kevin Hubbard; and five great-grandchildren, Dustyn Kirby, Kaylie Jarvis (Patrick), Allysha Cook, Gage McClure and Mallory McClure; and a great-great-grandchild, Nova Jarvis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 30, at Green Brier Baptist Church, Utica. Burial will follow in Green Brier Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday at the church.
