CROMWELL, Ky. — Vernie Hillard Gilstrap, 90, of Cromwell, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 18, 1927, in Cromwell, to the late Ansil and Pansy Havens Gilstrap.
Mr. Gilstrap served in the United State Army and retired from Ohio County Board of Education. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and McHenry Masonic Lodge #800 F&AM, formerly of Cromwell Masonic Lodge.
Aside from his parents, Mr. Gilstrap was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Jane Morris Gilstrap; two brothers, William Gilstrap and Ray Gilstrap; and one sister, Vonnie Wallace.
Survivors include five children, Regina (Brett) Holland, of Evansville, Indiana, Gerald Gilstrap, of Owensboro, Glen (Carolyn) Gilstrap, of Sparta, Illinois, Eddie (Tonya) Gilstrap, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Rodney Gilstrap, of Cromwell; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ellouise (William) Jones, of Beaver Dam, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with Rev. Gerald Geary officiating. Burial will follow in Baizetown Cemetery, in Cromwell, with military honors by Ohio County Honor Guard. Masonic Services will also be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. Friends may visit with Mr. Gilstrap’s family from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
