GREENVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky State Police is advising the public of a possible scam.
The Kentucky State Police and the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office have received complaints of a scam involving a residence for rent/lease in Greenville. The “owner” of the residence has posted the home for rent/sale/lease on social media. When victims contact the “owner” in reference to the residence, the victims are advised to wire them money to various locations within the United States.
Once the money is received, the victims are told their keys were seized by US Customs due to the delivery person being arrested. The “owner” then wants the victim to send more money to get the keys from evidence.
There is a great possibility for this suspect to have posted this, or similar scams, in various sites on social media which have not yet been found or identified.
The Kentucky State Police recommend to never give out personal information to anyone you are not familiar with.
To report a possible scam, contact the Kentucky State Police Post 16 Henderson at 1-270-826-3312 or contact your local law enforcement agency.
