HARTFORD, Ky. — James Gleason Funk, 82, of Hartford, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Signature Health Care of Hartford. James was born on Sept. 25, 1935, in Hartford, to the late McGlone Funk and Grace Poole Funk.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Marines (Korean Conflict), and later worked as a coal miner for Peabody Coal Company. James was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where he was involved for many years with training and coaching of the church Youth Union Class and The Royal Ambassadors. He played with the Peabody Coal softball team and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. James was a marksman and an excellent trap shooter.
Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings, Gail Funk, Billy Funk and Eileen Wilson.
James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Funk, and his daughter, Pamela Jo Funk-Morton, of Georgetown, Kentucky. He is also survived by his brothers, Bobby Funk and Carroll Funk, both of Hartford, Kentucky, and his sisters, Shirley Wells of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Ellen Wakefield, of Benton, Illinois, and Sue Crane, of Centertown, Kentucky.
Services will be Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, with Richard Wakefield and Bradley Funk officiating. Burial will be at Clear Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 2, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the funeral home.
