LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Zelpha Westerfield Hardin Midkiff, 91, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Norton’s Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. She was born in Cash, Arkansas, on Jan. 18, 1926, to Finis (Pete) and May Wright Westerfield.
Mrs. Midkiff attended Dundee High School, was a 1962 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College with a degree in elementary education, and she taught in Ohio and McLean counties before retiring from Daviess County in 1984. She was a member of Westport Road Baptist Church of Louisville and a member of COED II Sunday School Class.
Aside from her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Hardin, and four sisters, Lethel Darr, Emelyn Burden, Juanita Lindsey, and Cornelia Peach.
Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Midkiff, of Louisville; son, Larry (Sharon) Hardin, of Monroe, North Carolina; daughter, Diana (Thomas) Chandler, of Perryville, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Vicki (John) Weiland and Lelia Midkiff, all of Louisville. She was blessed four grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and six stepgreat-granddaughters.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, with Rev. Shane Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Salvation Army and Disabled American Veterans. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
