BEAVER DAM, Ky. — George Lendol Duvall, 88, of Beaver Dam, died September 18, 2017 at Ohio County Hospital.
George was retired from Ken, Homestead, and Gibraltar coal mines.
He served in the United States Army, was a bus driver for Ohio County Schools and a bailiff in the Ohio County Sheriff’s Department. George also worked at the post office and Midwestern Gas.
He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and also attended Goshen Church.
George loved spending time on the farm, eating a big country meal and telling stories. He pulled Belgian draft horses for 65 years in 15 states and Canada.
He was a regular fixture in the local Christmas parades and most enjoyed hauling the hundreds of children in Downtown Christmas with his green Owensboro wagon. He was able to continue the parades and pulling in his later years with the help of Brody Brown and Bobby Stofer and he loved them as his own.
His last horse, Old Jim, died in April.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Lena Duvall; sisters, Thelm Steward, Merlene Ashley, and Audra Hoxworth; and his grandson, Joe Lendol Brashear.
George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary K. Duvall, of Beaver Dam; daughters, Jo Jo (Glen) Russelburg, of Beaver Dam, and De De (Lanny) Ashby, of Hanson, Kentucky; granddaughters, Jenna Brashear (John Palmer), of Owensboro, Kentucky, Katy Ashby, of Hanson, and Kourtney Ashby, of Hanson; and nieces and nephews, Janice Hensley, of Blacksburg, Virginia; Frank Hoxworth, of Terre Haute, Indiana; and Cherie Perigo, of Bluffton, South Carolina. He is also survived by Aaron Russelburg, of Hawesville, Kentucky, and Tony and Kasen Russelburg, of Stockdale, Texas.
Funeral services will be at Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be held 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday with the funeral to follow. Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.
