HARTFORD, Ky. — Virgil Eugene “Gene” Boling, 70, of Hartford, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born June 25, 1947, in Daviess County to the late Virgil and Hazel Howard Boling.
Gene was an retired machine operator for Peabody Coal Company and a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where for many years he served as a deacon. Gene loved barrel racing and pole bending, restoring and driving old cars, collecting knives, rabbit hunting, and he loved singing with various groups and choirs. In recent days he enjoyed cane making.
Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Lynn Boling; sisters, Carolyn Worthington and Katie Spurrier; and great-grandson, Isiah West.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Charlene Taylor Boling, of Hartford; sons, Michael Eugene (Sheri) Boling, of Hartford, and Roger Dale (Tammy) Boling, of Pleasant Ridge, Kentucky. He is also survived by his loving baby sister, Darlene “Sug” (T.J. Johnston) Barnett, of Owensboro, Kentucky. Gene was blessed with five grandchildren, Mika (Chase) Dant, Ashley (Josh) West, Brandon (Amy) Boling, Jordon (Courtney) Boling, and Saralynn Boling, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Buford Road off 231 North, with Dr. Dustin Taylor and Bro. Chris Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family of Gene Boling from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
