James Frederick ‘Jimmy’ Pipes

HARTFORD, Ky. — James Frederick “Jimmy” Pipes, 92, of Hartford, passed away Aug. 12, 2017, peacefully at his residence. He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Oakland City, Indiana, to the late Earl and Ida Boger Pipes.

He was a member of Hartford Christian Church, where he served as deacon, elder, Sunday School Treasurer, and front door greater. Jimmy was an U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a retired coal miner for Peabody Coal Company.

Aside from his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Allene Miller Pipes; one sister, Earldene Hurst’ brothers-in-law, Hilary Hurst, D.M. Miller Jr., Jack Ward, and Truman Cavendar.

Survivors include his children, Sharon (Allan) James, of Newburgh, Indiana, and Freddie (Melinda) Pipes, of Hartford. Jimmy was blessed with six grandchildren, Matthew (Megan) Taylor, Melea Pipes (Mario) Segovia, Elise Pipes, Tyler Pipes, Jeff (Marlene) James, and Kevin James; seven great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Jackson Taylor, Addison, Miguel, and Alayna Segovia, Gillian, Meredith, and Hadley James; brothers and sisters-in-law, Betty Ward, Barbara Cavendar, Ann Miller, Gene and Carolyn Whittaker, and Bobby Joe and Betty Miller. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and -nephews along with many friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at Hartford Christian Church, with Rev. David Cordey officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit with the family of Jimmy Pipes from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartford Christian Church. Military honors will be provided by Wesley Phelps Honor Guard.
