WHITESVILLE, Ky. — Mary Joe Higdon, 90, of Whitesville, died on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at her home with her loving family. She was born on May 1, 1927, in Knottsville, Ky., to the late Bernard and Agnes Mattingly Melton.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Bernardine Foster; two brothers, Carl Melton and Forest “Frostie” Melton; and a son-in-law, John L. Beatty.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Henry C. Higdon; four sons, Larry Higdon (Evonne), of Philpot, Ky., Ronnie Higdon (Patty), of Owensboro, Ky., Glenn Higdon (Lou), of Whitesville, and Kenny Higdon (Stephanie), of Deanfield, Ky.; two daughters, Donna Beatty (Bill Westerfield), of Owensboro, and Mary Roby (Joey), of Knottsville, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Carol Cecil (Brian), Kara Higdon, Jeremy Higdon (Jennifer), Jason Higdon (Jessica), Mandy Coomes (Greg), Matthew Beatty (Heather), Jonathan Roby, Kacey Jo Roby and Alissa Higdon; 12 great-grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, Jaycee, Allie, Ben, Hannah, Archer, Chloe, Emree, JohnThomas, Ella and John; a brother, Paul Melton, of Knottsville; and two sister-in-laws, Lucille Melton, of Knottsville, and Bernadette Melton, of Owensboro.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville with prayers at 7:30 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
