Allen Cecil ‘Bud’ Ellis

BEAVER DAM, Ky. — Allen Cecil “Bud” Ellis, 70, of Beaver Dam, departed this life on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Hartford, Ky., to the late Hansford Woodrow and Winnie Westerfield Ellis.

Mr. Ellis was a 1965 graduate of Hartford High School, and he retired from Highland Mine. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1966-1968 at the demilitarized zone “DMZ” near South Korea.

Bud was a member of McHenry Masonic Lodge 800 where he served as chaplain and was President of the Green River Chapter 3102 of Quail Forever. Mr. Ellis was a Kentucky Colonel, was a former Deacon at Woodwards Valley Church and a member of Independence Baptist Church.

He was a past President of the Ohio County Football Boosters and coached many youth baseball and softball teams.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Sue Lindsey Ellis; daughter, Cindy Ellis Sandefur (Robbie), of Horse Branch, Ky.; sons Darren Porter (Belinda), of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Jeff Porter, of Beaver Dam, and Alex Daugherty, of Owensboro, Ky.; grandchildren, Nikki Porter (Joe), Darren Michael Porter, Danielle Daugherty, Janeanne Porter, Bo Sandefur, Patrick Daugherty, Blake Sandefur, and Emily Porter; sisters, Carol Lamar and Ann (Roger) Carter; nieces, Latrisha Sampson, Lori Stewart, and Kimberly Carter-Campbell; uncle, Jake Westerfield; his mother-in-law, Rava Lindsey; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces- and nephews-in-law, and great-nieces and -nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wesley Phelps Honor Guard. Friends may visit with Mr. Ellis’ family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with Masonic Services being held at 7 p.m. Friends may also visit from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
