PLEASANT RIDGE, Ky. — Larry J. Higgs, 69, of Pleasant Ridge, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at his home. Mr. Higgs was born May 26, 1947, in Muhlenberg County, Ky., to the late James D. Higgs and Gwendolyn LaMastus Higgs.
Larry served as a supply sergeant in the Army during the Vietnam War. Afterwards owning an auto parts store and working for TVA, he was employed at Kentucky Utilities for almost 30 years before he retired.
Larry was an avid UK basketball fan and was the “sideline coach” for each game. He enjoyed the outdoors while playing many sports including baseball, golf, and fishing. Larry was not shy and made new friends wherever he went. His greatest joy was his kids and grandkids and he loved going to school concerts and their sporting events.
Mr. Higgs was also preceded in death by brother, Charles Wayne Higgs, and sister, Patsy Lee Burns.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 29 years, Julia Hinkle Higgs; daughter, Jordan Lile and husband, Johnathon, of Owensboro, Ky.; sons, Jarred Higgs, of Lexington, Ky., Ricky Higgs and wife, Bobbi Jo, of Central City, Ky., Timmy Higgs and wife, Christina, of Salem, Ky., Bradley Higgs and wife, Tara, of Owensboro; brother, Ronnie “RJ” Higgs; sisters, Mimi Harris, Jamie Mehne, Sheila Hoffman and husband, Troy, and Candy Allega; 14 grandchildren, SaraBeth, Tony, Sierra, Austin, Tristan, Gracie, and Bradley Higgs, Lucas and Trey Lile, Justin, Nathan, and Derrick Pickerill, Jarred and Aaron Heberer; two great-grandchildren, Karson Davis and Brooklyn Heberer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Tim Trout officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Cherry Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from noon at the funeral home.
