WHITESVILLE, Ky. — Jake Matthew Coomes, 14, of Whitesville, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, at University of Louisville Hospital, surrounded by family. He was born on Aug. 29, 2002.
Jake was an 8th grade student at the St. Mary’s Grade School in Whitesville. He enjoyed hunting, farming, 4-wheeler riding, and hanging out with friends and family. He attended the St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville.
Jake is survived by his parents, Jeneen Coomes, of Owensboro, Ky., and Matthew Coomes, of Whitesville; his sisters, Katelyn and Hannah, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Sherry Johnson, of Reynolds Station, Ky., and Phillip Johnson Sr. (Becky), of Russellville, Ky.; and his paternal grandparents, Sam and Betty Coomes, of Whitesville, and great-grandmother, Mildred Johnson; aunts and uncles, Jill Booker (David), of Philpot, Ky., Julie Lanham, of Whitesville, Mark Coomes (Maria), of Wildwood, Mo., Phillip Johnson Jr., of Evansville, Ind.; his cousins, Ashley and Max Lanham, of Whitesville, Olivia and Noah Coomes, of Wildwood, and Tyler and Josie Booker, of Philpot. Jake is also survived by extended family, Patrice, Michaela, Maya, and Mahalia Moss; and Aaliyah Rae Oates.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Monday at The Parrish Center beside St. Mary of the Woods Church, Whitesville with prayers at 7:30 p.m. and visitation from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cecil Funeral Home, Whitesville. Cecil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
